Why This Works for CUA
- ✦Solves a real gap: graduate, law, and upperclass students who fall outside the on-campus residency requirement
- ✦Two Red Line stops — closer than most off-campus options CUA students currently use
- ✦Direct bursar billing means students can pay through their CUA student account using financial aid refunds
- ✦Class A purpose-built student housing — concierge, security, study lounges, no random apartment-shopping risk
- ✦Single-sex floors available on request — supports CUA's residential community values
- ✦Zero financial commitment, zero balance sheet impact — structured as an MOU, not a real estate transaction
- ✦Operated by UniversityHaus — a DC-based operator dedicated exclusively to university student housing
Our Asks
1
Immediate Ask
Preferred Off-Campus Housing Designation
List UniversityHaus NoMa on CUA's official off-campus housing portal as a Preferred Partner for graduate, law, and upperclass students. CUA refers students; students lease and pay directly. No financial or contractual commitment from the university.
2
Operational Ask
Direct Bursar Billing Agreement
Allow CUA students to pay rent through their student account so financial aid refunds flow seamlessly to UniversityHaus. Reduces friction for students, no spending commitment from CUA — the Bursar's office is purely a conduit.
3
Long-Term Goal
Columbus School of Law Allocation
Reserve 25–50 beds with right of first refusal for Columbus School of Law students post-1L year, where on-campus options are most limited. Variable, contingent — CUA pays nothing unless students take the beds.
